Ringworm, Hierophant, Poison Headache live at Cassiopeia 29.11.2016

Here’s a photo set from Cleveland hardcore/metal pioneers Ringworm, on tour with one of Italy’s best death metal groups Hierophant, and Poison Headache from their recent gig at Cassiopeia in Berlin. I’ve been listening to Ringworm since the 90s, but this was my first opportunity to see them live. Really fantastic live band, and a remarkably tasteful crossover thrash style which seems more firmly rooted in hardcore. Definitely check out Hierophant if you’re into the atmospheric side of death metal, really powerful group!

Countdown to Armageddon / Duesenjaeger split EP

This was another project for my band Countdown to Armageddon, for a split 7″ vinyl record with our friends in Duesenjaeger from Osnabrück, Germany.  Duesenjaeger has a similar aesthetic to us, and when we began the project to do the split they requested that I do the artwork. Creating an aesthetic that worked for both bands’ sound, I took a field trip to Fort Ward on Bainbridge Island, WA. Fort Ward is an abandoned military munitions fort, and I liked the contrasts between the overtaking of nature and what was essentially a stockpile house for guns and bombs. I chose four pictures for the layouts which you can see below.

The Duesenjaeger song on this release is titled “Fass Ohne Boden,” which translates to “Bottomless Pit” in English. Amazingly I found one to shoot at the site, which made the design process all the more involved. I really like being able to take a concept and translate it visually and spatially in a project like this.

Countdown to Armageddon – Through the Wires LP/CD

This was a project for my band Countdown to Armageddon on our second full length release. I shot the photo of Brandon in the woods up by Glacier, WA, right near the Canadian border during a camping trip some friends and I took for my birthday. I had the concept of the cover in my mind for a few months, and luckily we just happened to stumble upon this setting while out on a hike. Through the Wires is a concept album that revolves around a dystopian society, and only through the reconnection to nature can humanity survive and prevail.

 

The CD digipak also combined Through the Wires with our first LP, Eater of Worlds. I took a photo from the same shoot as I did for the Eater of Worlds layout, and tried to bridge the gap chromatically between the two releases.
